Why we play games

My most unforgettable childhood memories revolve around a set of weapon wielding cartoon characters, the Ninja Turtles! The kungfu moves, bashing up bad guys with many different weapons, the idea of good vs evil, all these different elements that made up the cartoon definitely play a very big part in why I play games. I still remember those Ninja turtle soft toyS(i was 5) that I had. Kicked them around like soccer ball, thrown them around like turtle grenades.

Only in games can I live and die and live again, kill bad guys with sword, spray bullets into them, call down rain of veageance on demons, be a monk, ride horses and dragons, relive the scenes in my mind about what I read in fantasy novels. Be Jimmy the hand, a thief turned Duke of Krondor, Be the Warded Man, vanquishing evil as they spawn at dusk. I can also be Jack Bauer from the show “24”, stalking terrorists along Caspian border with a silencer attached M9 pistol or doing crazy stuff with my buddies over skype in the game, stuff like what the A-team does!

The right game is a space in which the mind can boldly use to create anything imaginable without any harm to our earthly bound body. Borders of our creativity are non-existent in this space. Like muscles gaining extra strength through repetitive weight lifting, playing game is like going to a mental gym.
........
This is just an attempt to justify the purchase of Guildwars 2. I have not yet clicked the purchase button but something tells me I will.
Will gaming affect my studies? Likely, no no, unlikely. Maybe......for sure. I could use the time spent playing to prepare for Year 2(Essaysssssss). But who am I kidding, 15+ years of schooling,I have never stick to a study timetable. So Ill continue doing what I do okay(not best), study and play at the same time!
